Description
Job DescriptionYou will be responsible for ensuring the electromagnetic compatibility of all high-voltage (HV) electrical/electronic (E/E) commodities and subsystems. By focusing on power electronics such as inverters, DC/DC converters, on-board chargers (OBC), and battery management systems (BMS), you will guarantee these critical components meet stringent internal and regulatory EMC standards.
You will work closely with vehicle and product development teams from the initial design phase through to final validation. Your expertise will be crucial in reviewing circuit and printed circuit board (PCB) layouts, providing critical feedback to suppliers, developing robust test plans, and overseeing validation testing to ensure a successful component/subsystem sign-off to support vehicle-level compliance.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
- Provide expert EMC technical support for high-voltage power electronics commodities to internal design teams and external suppliers.
- Lead the EMC design reviews for HV components, covering circuit design, PCB layout, and system-level wiring and packaging.
- Collaborate with suppliers on upfront design proposals and system trade-offs to ensure EMC requirements are met from the start.
- Work with supplier and Ford design teams to develop and approve EMC test plans for power electronic components, overseeing execution of EMC validation testing, analyzing the results to ensure compliance.
- Support supplier and Ford design teams in diagnosing root cause of EMC compliance issues and developing mitigation actions.
- Leverage analytical methods, CAE numerical tools, and empirical testing to assess the EMC robustness of HV systems.
- Support vehicle-level teams in resolving any integration issues related to power electronics components.
Qualifications
You'll have...
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in automotive E/E commodity design and validation with a focus on EMC, OR an MSEE with a concentration in RF systems and electromagnetics.
- Demonstrated understanding of EMC concepts including inductive, capacitive and common impedance coupling in addition to PCB design factors that influence common mode voltage/current.
- A strong understanding of power electronics design, including components like inverters, converters, and battery management systems.
- Familiar with low voltage and high voltage power semiconductors (Si/SiC/GaN MOSFET's, Diodes) and associated parasitic effects on their EMI characteristics.
- Knowledge of automotive EMC test procedures such as conducted/radiated emissions and immunity, bulk current injection, electrostatic discharge, transient immunity etc.
- Significant hands-on experience with electrical test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, and signal generators.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a goal-oriented, team-player attitude and the ability to work independently to plan and finish tasks on time.
Even better, if you have...
- An MSEE with a focus on RF systems and electromagnetics, plus 3+ years of relevant work experience in high-voltage power electronics.
- Deep knowledge of EMC design for high-voltage EV components and systems.
- Proven problem-solving skills based on applied electromagnetic theoretical concepts.
- Familiarity with automotive EMC standards for high-voltage components, such as Ford's FMC1280, ISO 7637-4, and CISPR 25.
- Prior experience with EMCOS, Ansys HFSS, Feko, or other EMC simulation tools.
- NARTE Certified EMC Engineer credentials.
