In this position...
The Core Exterior Structural Systems organization at Ford Motor Company is seeking a Core SME specializing in Structural Adhesives and Sealers. This individual would serve the Exterior Structural Systems team as the subject matter expert in adhesives and sealers. As such, this individual will spearhead the next-generation development of adhesives and sealers critical for body & battery structures. The role involves developing new adhesives /Sealer technologies to support future architecture, guiding projects from their initial concept phase right through to launch. The Core SME will also write and maintain the core quality documents, Engineering Specifications, Design Rules and all related core and foundation documents. This individual will also work as part of a team to solve new product design challenges, plant concerns, material shortage issues.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
- Support Architecture and Applications customers - drive for quality and cost / weight efficiency
- Work with Sheet Metal D/R team to optimize designs as a system
- Feasibility assessment of program-specific material combinations during the development phase
- Planning, execution and evaluation of adhesive & sealing joining trials with new materials and/or joining processes in internal and external laboratories in alignment with R&A- and Body Construction Joining SMEs
- Sign-off (ESO) Adhesive and Sealer at key program milestones
- Technology Development
- Develop new materials and joining / bonding applications which deliver future strategic Structural Systems solutions
- Benchmark competition and developing advanced projects to ensure Ford is Best In Class
- Close cooperation with CAE-team for the development of simulation methods and joint cards
- Institutionalize knowledge and best practices
- Develop and maintain Core documents including ES's, Requirements, Design Rules, DFMEA's, SCCAF's, and other required documents for adhesives, sealers, baffles, tapes and related products
- Deliver / Manage Core Foundation/Quality documents (DVP, DFMEA, interface diagrams, boundary diagrams)
- Develop new and maintain Engineering Specifications, standards and test methods - physical/analytical
- Business Support:
- Drive continuous improvement in the Supply Base
- Support resolving production issues with VO, Materials, STA, and Purchasing; these include and are not limited to: Stop-Ships, Field Service Actions, Warranty, Material Shortages
Qualifications
You'll have...
- B.S. in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related physical science field of study
- 5+ years as a Body Exterior Design & Release Engineer or similar experience
- 2+ years' experience with job responsibilities specific to adhesives and sealers
- 10% Ability to travel international and domestic
Even better, you may have...
- M.S. in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related physical science field of study
- 5+ years' experience with job responsibilities specific to adhesives and sealers
- Experience writing DFMEA's, SCCAF's, Engineering Specifications, Requirements, Design Rules or equivalent Core documents
- Experience that would qualify this individual to lead projects that would define and implement effective methods for leak testing battery enclosures. This includes all attributes & leak-proof designs.
- Experience in Body Leak testing methods, design, and requirements is desired
- Demonstrated knowledge in Adhesives and Sealer (pumpable, tapes, baffles, extruded other) products
- Self-starter. Ability to work effectively with little oversight.
- Team player. Understands collaboration and delivering assignments as part of a cross-functional team.
- Hands on engineering, and willingness to learn and adapt.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data using statistical tools.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience in manufacturing environment.

This position is a range of salary grades 5-8 .
