Description
Job DescriptionThe global trade environment is rapidly evolving, demanding innovative solutions to complex customs challenges. As a Customs Data Analyst, you will be at the forefront of this transformation, bridging the critical gap between intricate global trade compliance requirements and cutting-edge technological innovation. You will play a pivotal role in identifying, designing, and implementing automation solutions that will streamline customs processes, enhance data accuracy, ensure robust regulatory compliance, and significantly improve overall operational efficiency within our global supply chain. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with Information Technology, Supply Chain, and other key departments, leveraging advanced technologies to drive strategic advantage for Ford Motor Company.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
- Automation Design & Implementation:
- Meticulously analyze existing manual or semi-automated customs processes (e.g., data entry, document review, classification, valuation, origin determination, duty drawback, post-entry amendments) to identify bottlenecks and pinpoint high-impact opportunities for automation.
- Design and propose innovative automation solutions utilizing a diverse toolkit, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA), scripting (e.g., PythonPython, VBAVBA), specialized data manipulation tools, and advanced features within Global Trade Management (GTM) software or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
- Collaborate seamlessly with IT partners, or work independently, to implement, configure, rigorously test, and deploy automation solutions. This includes developing precise logic for data validation, embedding automated checks against complex regulations, and creating automated reporting mechanisms.
- Data Management & Reporting:
- Develop sophisticated automated methods for collecting, cleaning, validating, and analyzing vast amounts of customs data, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
- Design and create dynamic automated dashboards and comprehensive reports on key customs metrics, such as duty spend, clearance times, and the quantifiable savings achieved through automation initiatives.
- Actively work with existing Global Trade Management System partners to optimize data flows and system capabilities.
- Compliance & Continuous Improvement:
- Ensure all automation solutions are built with a deep understanding of evolving customs regulations and compliance requirements, embedding proactive compliance checks directly into automated workflows.
- Provide expert training and ongoing support to the Customs teams on newly implemented automated processes and tools, fostering adoption and proficiency.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the latest trends in trade compliance regulations and automation technologies relevant to the customs field, driving proactive adaptation and innovation.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Supply Chain Management, Business, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5+3-5+ years of progressive experience in Customs, trade compliance, or global logistics, with a significant portion focused on process improvement, data analysis, or technology implementation.
- Strong knowledge of customs and trade compliance principles, including but not limited to tariff classification, valuation, rules of origin, and free trade agreements.
- Proven automation and technical skills, including strong data analysis capabilities, experience with SQLSQL for querying databases, and proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBIPowerBI, TableauTableau, ExcelExcel).
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to analyze complex processes, identify root causes of inefficiencies, and design logical, effective solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences and articulate customs requirements for technical teams.
- Preferred (a plus):
- Relevant professional certifications in Customs, Trade Compliance, or Project Management.
- Experience with specific Global Trade Management (GTM) Software.
- Knowledge or experience with Ford's internal sourcing, part release, and/or codification processes (e.g., understanding of business practices and systems impacting volumes like WERS/PDOWERS/PDO).
- Experience in Material Planning & Logistics (MP&L), Pre-Production, and/or Product Development (PD) project management.
