As an Design Engineer Ford Champ, you will be an integral part of our team, supporting various stages of the product development lifecycle. You will gain exposure to the entire design process, from initial concept development (UNV0/early design phase) through to supporting production launch activities. Under the guidance of senior engineers, you will learn to contribute to key program milestones, including Design Check Vehicles (DCV), Tooling Trials (TT), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Job One (J1). This role provides a foundational learning experience in a dynamic environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams and contributing to the creation of innovative designs.
Responsibilities
What you'll do:
- CAD Design, Modeling, and Automation: The role involves assisting in the creation and modification of 3D/2D CAD concepts, models, and design alternatives for seat systems using tools like CATIA, Teamcenter, and TcVis. This includes managing robust, parametric parts, assemblies, drawings, integrating vehicle environments, and exploring automation tools to enhance design efficiency.
- Problem Solving and Manufacturing Feasibility: This includes supporting the resolution of compatibility, feasibility, and functionality issues, collaborating with tool shops and suppliers on manufacturing concerns, and contributing to the design of manufacturing-feasible systems in accordance with Global Manufacturing Requirements (GMRs). The role also involves identifying and resolving design issues with Full Seat System (FSS) owners and evaluating alternative design solutions.
- Data Management, Compliance, and Technical Development: Responsibilities extend to supporting the creation and management of design data within Teamcenter, identifying system interfaces, confirming Bill of Material (BOM) structures, and ensuring designs adhere to functional requirements and established design rules. The role also emphasizes developing an understanding of manufacturing processes and actively participating in technical discussions and learning initiatives.
Qualifications
What you'll need:
- Active student from any of the last 4 semesters of engineering (Automotive, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Industrial, or a closely related discipline)
- 90% English skills (Oral, reading, writing, and listening)
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Academic project experience or coursework demonstrating exposure to CAD tools and design principles.
- Basic understanding or academic exposure to CATIA V5, Teamcenter, or similar CAD/PLM software.
- Foundational engineering knowledge of Mechanical, Structural, and Materials concepts.
- Willingness to learn and develop an understanding of core quality tools such as DFMEA, FMEA, APQP, and PPAP.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new software and processes, including WERS, FEDEBOM, and e2KS.
