Description
Job DescriptionConveyor Tool Installation and Constraints Engineering Manager
At Ford Motor Company, we believe freedom of movement drives human progress. We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Conveyor Tool Installation and Constraints Engineering Manager to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in optimizing our manufacturing processes, ensuring efficient material flow, and enhancing production capabilities by expertly managing conveyor systems, tool installations, and addressing critical production constraints.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
- Strategic Direction & Process Optimization: Set the strategic direction for the installation, optimization, and maintenance of conveyor systems and critical manufacturing tooling. You will collaborate across various departments, including operations, engineering, finance, and safety, to identify innovative technologies and methods that improve system reliability, throughput, and overall operational efficiency. This influential role directly impacts the organization's manufacturing profitability and output.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor a team of engineering professionals and strategists focused on conveyor systems, tool installation, and constraints engineering. You will provide guidance, training, and performance management to ensure your team effectively supports regional and plant leadership in achieving asset performance and production flow goals. Experience navigating a union environment is crucial for fostering a collaborative and productive work atmosphere.
- Engineering Process Development & Implementation: Develop and implement robust engineering processes for conveyor system installation, maintenance, and tool integration. This includes establishing preventative, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies, conducting root cause analysis (RCA) for production bottlenecks, and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) related to throughput and uptime. This requires strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of manufacturing engineering principles, including Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) as applied to complex manufacturing systems.
- Technology Adoption & Data Infrastructure: Drive the adoption of advanced engineering technologies and predictive maintenance solutions for conveyor systems and tooling. You will be responsible for developing the necessary data infrastructure, including Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and analytics platforms, ensuring seamless integration across the organization to monitor performance and predict potential issues.
- Financial Management & Capital Expenditure: Manage significant interactions with budgeting processes, justifying capital expenditures for new conveyor systems, tool installations, and constraint-related improvements. Your goal will be to optimize maintenance and installation costs while maximizing the lifespan and performance of critical manufacturing assets.
- Stakeholder Collaboration & Influence: Success hinges on your ability to effectively collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including regional directors, plant managers, maintenance managers, global manufacturing engineering teams, other business leaders, and skilled trades across multiple business units. This requires exceptional communication, influencing, and negotiation skills to drive cross-functional initiatives.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related field)
- 10+ years' experience in Manufacturing Engineering with a specific focus on Final Assembly Engineering
Preferred Qualifications:
- A blend of technical expertise, leadership capabilities, business acumen, and direct experience in manufacturing operations, particularly with conveyor systems, tool installation, and production flow optimization
- A strong background in manufacturing asset management, conveyor system engineering, tool installation best practices, and processes aimed at minimizing downtime, understanding and increasing asset life cycles, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within a production environment
- A deep understanding of manufacturing reliability engineering principles, tools, and methodologies as applied to conveyor systems and tooling, coupled with experience in predictive maintenance technologies and strong analytical skills for data analysis and interpretation
- Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification
- Familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles, particularly in the context of identifying and resolving production constraints
- Extensive manufacturing engineering or maintenance experience with a focus on complex material handling systems and production tooling
- Demonstrated experience with IBM Maximo
Travel: This role involves travel to support project implementation, operating facilities, participate in workshops, and engage in industry benchmarking as needed (approximately 40-60%).
