Job DescriptionFord Performance is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of automotive innovation and performance. We are driven by a passion for motorsports and a commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology to the track and the road. We are looking for an experienced, talented, and highly motivated Powertrain Controls Engineer to join our Global Motorsports department, based in Allen Park, Michigan.
In this position...
You will help develop, test and deliver world class powertrain controls software used to power our teams to race wins and championships across the globe.
This is a hybrid role requiring at least 4 days per week in the Allen Park, MI office.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
- ICE/Hybrid/EV powertrain controls development for both professional and customer racing vehicles.
- Vehicle level controls development (traction control, drivability, torque management, etc...).
- Develop simulation environments for HiL (Hardware in the loop), SiL (Software in the loop) and DiL (Driver in the loop) testing.
- Engine and driveline model creation to assist with off-line software development and testing.
- Trackside calibration tool development.
- Support track testing as required.
- Innovation of new technologies allowable within the boundaries imposed by appropriate race sanctioning bodies.
Qualifications
You'll have...
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or an equivalent technical degree.
- 2+ years of experience in automotive powertrain controls development.
- Must hold or be eligible for a passport. International and Domestic travel may be required.
Even better, you may have...
- Experience using Bosch Motorsport, Motec, Cosworth and Mclaren Hardware and Software.
- Professional motorsport experience (IMSA, WEC, F1, WRC, NASCAR, Indycar).
- Formula SAE experience very highly preferred.
- Preferred candidate has experience using CAN tools to collect and analyze vehicle communication data, and the ability to create, read, and modify CAN drivers and CAN message database.
- Proficiency with MATLAB & Simulink.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex dynamic systems and design control algorithms to meet performance targets.
- Strong overall knowledge of vehicle and powertrain functions.
- Proficiency in C#, Python, MATLAB, VBA, or an equivalent programming language.
- Possess a competitive spirt, can-do attitude, and interest in professional and amateur Motorsports at a technical level.
- Strong team player, ability to work with multiple suppliers, and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with high responsibility.
- Detail oriented self-starter and problem solver.

This position is a range of salary grades 5-8.
