Job DescriptionIn this position...
The Thermal Systems team is seeking an individual to become a member of the Air Handling Subsystem (AHSS) team. This role will be responsible for the CAE/CFD analysis of the components of the AHSS during the product development process, optimizing the system responsible for delivering interior airflow to the customers of Ford Motor Company. These components include vehicle ductwork, registers, cowl intake, extraction path and HVAC unit. The AHSS development process includes running various CAE/CFD and bench testing, interpreting data and communicating it across a broad range of functional teams, such as the Design Studio, Body Interior & Exterior, Thermal Systems, Program Teams and Vehicle Architecture.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
You will apply thermal/fluid modeling methodologies and analysis techniques to drive the design and development of the Air-Handling Subsystem on Fords future ICE, hybrid and electrified powertrains.
Qualifications
You'll have...
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field with a focus on Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics
- 5+ years of experience working with 3D CFD software tools such as ANSYS/Fluent, Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM, ANSA
- 2+ years of proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA, Teamcenter, 3DX
- 2+ years of working experience in analysis of thermal and fluid systems supporting product development
- 2+ years of programming experience (Java, Python, scripting)
Even better, you will have...
- A Masters or Ph.D in Mechanical engineering or a related engineering field with a focus on Thermodynamics or Heat Transfer
- A background with both experimental and computational fluid mechanics
- Experience with 3D Conjugate heat transfer modeling
- Experience with method development in relation to Computational Fluid Dynamics
- Experience with Human Comfort Modeling
- Experience with the application of AI or LLM tools in the product development process
- Understanding of the Ford Product Development systems and tools
- Familiarity with Model Based System Engineering and System Engineering Best Practices (INCOSE)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with flexibility to adjust to changing priorities
- Strong analytical abilities including data driven problem solving and root cause analysis

This position is a range of salary grades 6-8.

This position is hybrid. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
