In this position...
We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Security and Fire Operations Manager to oversee all security and fire operations across the Michigan Central District properties in Detroit, including the iconic Train Station, Book Depository, The Factory, Bagley Parking, and St. Annes. This pivotal role involves leading and developing a team of Ford Security personnel, as well as managing and coordinating contract security teams to ensure the safety and security of all district assets and occupants.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
- Oversee comprehensive security and fire operations for all Michigan Central District properties in Detroit, including managing Ford Security and contract security personnel, and optimizing staffing, access control, CCTV monitoring, fire inspections, and emergency support.
- Develop and present monthly security reports, metrics, and awareness communications to Michigan Central leadership, while also fostering collaboration with executive leadership, HR, Ford Land, Safety, and other key stakeholders to resolve workplace issues.
- Act as a security Subject Matter Expert for new sites and tenant buildouts, providing guidance and input, and assisting with project management oversight for physical security and fire system installations, updates, and maintenance.
- Manage Ford events, special projects, and security initiatives, including conducting risk assessments to ensure site integrity and resolving escalated issues with contract security service providers.
- Lead emergency response and incident management, providing personal protection for executives, responding to behavioral situations and emergencies, participating in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and potentially serving as Incident Commander for various incidents.
- Enhance emergency response capabilities through the utilization of incident response tools and deployment of equipment, identifying and escalating physical security gaps through proactive initiatives.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal Ford skill teams and external partners to ensure unified alignment on all security and fire matters, planning and providing security coverage for special events, and acting as a liaison with local, state, and federal agencies.
Qualifications
You'll have...
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
- Minimum fire (5) years experience in law enforcement, military or equivalent
- Three (3) years' experience leading and developing teams
- Highly motivated, hands-on, self-starter with ability to think critically and operate in a dynamic ambiguous environment
- Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills; ability to navigate department technology platforms
- Ability to multi-task, strong problem-solving, conflict management skills
- Outstanding team building and communication skills
- Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills (soft skills)
- Must possess a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) and demonstrate firearm proficiency as a condition of hire

- Ten (10) years experience in law enforcement
- Seven (7) years experience leading people
- CPR/AED certification
- Available to work 24x7, 365 days a year
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Experience in using data to drive strategy
- Demonstrated ability to:

- Exhibit calm, rational behavior under stressful conditions
- Administer duties and responsibilities with accuracy and attention to detail

- Possess a working knowledge of emergency response levels
