Job Summary:
This position is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will work on various projects as part of the NS&E engineering execution center team. The projects that will be assigned involve government work through various sectors, including DOD and DOE. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.
In this role, you will lead design development of Mechanical systems and equipment (including HVAC and Fire Protection) for project(s) by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, material requisitions, engineering specifications, data sheets, evaluation, and more in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. The engineer will work with other mechanical engineers, other disciplines/functions, and/or the client. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met.
This role will be based in Knoxville, TN with periodic business travel, as required.
In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met.
Requirements
Major Responsibilities:
Originate and/or revise Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), calculations, data sheets, material requisitions, and specifications.
Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineeringmethods, techniques, procedures and criteria for preparation of originaldesigns layouts, details, drawings and specifications.
Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components andprocesses utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), designstandards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs,reports or proposals.
Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas withspecialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor,contractors, construction and other functional groups.
When delegated, provides guidance to other mechanical engineeringpersonnel for specific tasks or projects.
Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and willinteract with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agencypersonnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues.
Provides assistance toproject and construction management inidentifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and inaddressing issues as they arise during project execution
Mentors and assists more junior mechanical team members.
Completes mechanical documentation and procedures for installationand maintenance.
Selects components and equipment based on analysis ofspecifications and reliability.
Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work products.
Support development of project cost and schedule estimates.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Related experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) development, fluid system design, hydraulic, heat transfer, and thermodynamic calculations, and equipment specification and design. development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.
Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
Extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering work processes, procedures, and specifications.
Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Prior experience working in an execution center environment and demonstrated flexibility in work assignments.
Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited university or college.
Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
Registered Professional Engineer in the USA (Mechanical or related).
Possesses an active security clearance or have the ability to obtain one upon hire.
