Description
Job DescriptionTire Buyer
We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we're all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?
In this position...
The Ford Supply Chain team is central to our ability to build great vehicles. As a Tire Buyer you'll source high‑quality tires globally while driving cost, quality, and on‑time delivery. You'll help shape a resilient supply chain so Ford can consistently deliver the vehicles our customers want.
The Tire Buyer owns sourcing, supplier engagement, and day‑to‑day purchasing activities for a defined portion of the Tire category. You will support future model sourcing, deliver productivity through Total Value Management (TVM), and manage operational execution to meet program cost, quality, and delivery targets. You'll partner closely with Product Development (PD), Supplier Technical Assistance (STA), and Manufacturing, Planning & Logistics (MP&L).
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
- Manage cost, quality, and material efficiencies across the program lifecycle.
- Lead supplier relationship management and a proactive supplier engagement model.
- Develop strategies that support long‑term commodity viability and corporate objectives.
- Own program sourcing decisions and be the point‑of‑view (POV) lead for assigned programs, securing capacity, cost, timing, and ESG alignment.
- Deliver annual cost‑savings and distinguish opportunities from pure commercial leverage, design changes, and supply‑chain improvements.
- Analyze market supply/demand dynamics and identify supply‑risk mitigation strategies.
- Partner with cross‑functional strategic teams to assess supply‑base footprint, supplier financial health, emerging technologies, and market trends.
- Monitor industry trends, new tire technologies, and supplier financial/footprint changes to inform strategy.
Qualifications
You'll have...
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5-years of strategic buying or sourcing experience.
- Proficiency with purchasing systems, sourcing tools, and standard procurement procedures.
- Proven negotiation skills, able to create leverage in both offensive and defensive scenarios.
- Excellent persuasive written and verbal communication skills - capable of producing proposals, reports, and plans that secure business‑leader commitment.
Even better, you may have...
- 7+ years' experience in strategic buying or sourcing within automotive or tire/raw‑materials categories.
- MBA or Master's degree in Supply Chain Management or a closely related field.
- Ability to translate organizational needs and priorities into input for global category strategies.
- High energy and a strong commitment to continuous learning to develop commodity expertise.
- Self‑starter who is motivated and effective working independently or as part of a cross‑functional team.
- Advanced data‑analytics capability to drive sourcing decisions and model scenarios (e.g., Excel, Power BI/Tableau).
- Knowledge or previous experience in tire industry.
You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder...or all of the above?
No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:
- Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
- Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
- Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more
- Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases
- Tuition assistance
- Established and active employee resource groups
- Paid time off for individual and team community service
- A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year's Day
- Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.
