Company History
Our company was founded by Al Avery and Jay Adelson. They believed that existing options for network interconnection between data centers wouldn’t be able to support the rapid growth of the internet.
They saw an opportunity to support this growth and offer valuable services to customers through a platform of neutral data centers. They envisioned that a platform with interconnection points would enable the network of networks that form the internet to grow at an unprecedented rate. The belief was that you could do so much more and provide more value inside interconnected data centers that were neutral.
Our founders put a lot of careful thought into the Equinix name. It stands for what our company has always offered: equal access, neutrality and interconnection. Those values have fueled our success and enabled Equinix to achieve some exciting milestones through the years.
Our logo, “The Fortress,” debuted in 2008 to mark Equinix’s 10th anniversary. It symbolizes a stronghold where assets are both guarded and interconnected.
Our tagline: “Where Opportunity Connects” also has significant importance. It represents our dedication to the place where companies come together to realize new opportunities and accelerate their business.
