Established in 1907, the Department of Civil Engineering at Kansas State University has a rich tradition of teaching excellence coupled with interdisciplinary and collaborative research. The department offers an ABET accredited BS degree, as well as MS and PhD programs, and participates in the university’s off-campus master’s degree program. The department currently has 15 faculty positions, enrolls approximately 300 undergraduate students and 80 graduate students. Active research and teaching programs exist in the areas of environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation/materials, and water resources engineering. The department is currently housed in a new, state-of-the-art building (Fiedler Hall) with excellent laboratories for research and teaching. Related opportunities exist to work with industry in the Kansas City area at K-State's Olathe Innovation Campus. The department plays an integral role in K-State’s College of Engineering, which is the largest and most comprehensive engineering college in Kansas with a strong commitment to diversity and enrollment of approximately 3,500 undergraduates and 500 graduate students (www.engg.ksu.edu). The College of Engineering is undergoing rapid expansion and will be hiring 35 additional faculty over the next five years. K-State is a Land Grant University and is designated a Carnegie Doctoral/Research-Intensive Institution and has been ranked among the top state and private institutions of higher education in Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater, and Udall scholars since 1986. Current enrollment is over 24,000 students. K-State has been selected as the future home of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF); this $1.25 billion research facility will provide research infrastructure to protect the country’s food supply and agriculture economy.
