Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA)
MWRA is a Massachusetts public authority established by an act of the Legislature in 1984 to provide wholesale water and sewer services to 3.1 million people and more than 5,500 large industrial users in 63 metropolitan Boston communities. MWRA's mission is the provision of reliable, cost-effective, high quality water and wastewater treatment services, that protects the public health, promotes environmental stewardship, maintains customer confidence and supports a vital economy. Company History
The Massachusetts Legislature created the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority in December 1984, to manage water and sewer services for 3.1 million people and 5,500 businesses in 63 communities.
While the Boston Harbor project is the best known of its projects, MWRA also maintains 400 miles
of water pipes, aqueducts, and tunnels and 228 miles of sewers. MWRA maintains combined sewer overflows and
provides for safe and reliable water treatment and delivery to its customers.
